San Joaquin College of Law
San Joaquin College of Law (SJCL) was founded in 1969 by a group of San Joaquin Valley judges and attorneys. It provides students in the San Joaquin Valley an opportunity to obtain law degrees. It is a very successful institution with over 88% of its graduates passing the California bar examination.More than 28% of practicing lawyers in the Fresno area are SJCL graduates. Of the women lawyers in the area, nearly 46% are SJCL graduates. Nearly 35% of the minority lawyers are graduates.
San Joaquin College of Law is accredited by the Committee of Bar Examiners of the State Bar of California and the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
The most popular of the law programs offered at SJCL is The Four Year Program which was designed for working adults and allows students to tailor a study program to suit their individual family and work needs.
Upon successful completion of the first year, a student may choose their Three Year Program to accelerate completion of the J.D. to two additional years instead of three.
SJCL also offers a Five Year Program in which enables students to reduce their course load each semester.
In 1981 SJCL began the Paralegal Program to meet the increased needs of the local legal community.
The Program consists of a 12 month course of study, with 360 hours of classroom work, an equivalent of 24 semester units.
